Digital Gurus

After a busy couple of weeks Digital Gurus is now live. We did things a little differently this time around, using the Gaia flash framework to speed up the build and give ourselves less work (after months of playing around with it). Turns out this thing is great.

Gaia, for those of you that don’t know, is an open source flash framework that promises to dramatically reduce development time. It does this by taking care of all the niggly challenges in Flash website development like pages, transitions, asset management, structure and deep linking. All those things you spend hours on and which crop up later when Jon from accounts has clicked everything at once. It’s stable and it works and in this project alone it saved us 15-20 hours.

This allowed us to spend more time on animation and touches – which you can see on the the site. Combining fine aftereffects work and our own finishing touches.

Behind everything we’ve used some nifty programming on the jobs board side to build our own Haversine based postcode distance search, with various other sliders and dropdowns to modify the jobs listings to your needs – go and have a play! The site also intelligently preloads each page (in the order that they have been most accessed).

That site is damn sexy. Excellent work! Would you be willing to post it in the gallery on the Gaia forums?
