Read an article today which really made me laugh, absolute classic!
Apparently Habitat (funiture store for those not up on their home furnishings) decided to try and promote in-store offers by mentioning two of the most popular topics for tweets currently (by using ‘hashtag’ on twitter) – the new iphone, and the Iranian elections.
By using tags including #iphone and #mousavi they thought they could get away with using their own promotions alongside including ‘join our database for a chance to win £1k’
Whilst the tweets have been removed, the brand now gets to enjoy the negative publicity of how not to tweet! Can they now turn it around into doing something clever and win back any doubters..?
