Like most people in the industry, when I have some free downtime I enjoy looking through books and surfing the internet for inspiration and creative ideas. Recently while on one of my favourite creative portals Fubiz I stumbled upon Ben Heine, a young Belgium painter, illustrator, portraitist, caricaturist and photographer.
I have been particularly interested in a series of work that he entitles “Pencil vs Camera“. As the name implies the results are a creative mix of drawing and photography. Though this idea is not a new one, the creativity and humour demonstrated in these uncomplicated collages are mesmerising and surreal. Heine says: “I just make art for people. I want them to dream and forget their daily troubles. I used to write poems many years ago, I want to convey a poetic meaning into my pictures, each new creation should tell a story and generate an intense emotion, like a poem, like a melody”. I hope you find the examples posted as entertaining and intriguing as I do.
